CHARACTERS / ROLES
Walltown values diversity and is open to non-traditional casting; people of all ethnicities, races, and gender identities/expressions are welcomed and encouraged to audition for our productions.  All roles are open!

Reverend Shaw Moore - The powerful, traditional local church leader and Ariel's father
Ariel Moore - Rebellious daughter of Reverend Moore. Smart, a bit of a bad girl with an edge
Ren McCormack - A teenage boy from Chicago who is fun, quick-witted and loves to dance, with an out-going personality

The Durham Nutcracker

Walltown Children’s Theatre is holding auditions for our beloved holiday production, The Durham Nutcracker—a bold reimagining of the classic story infused with local culture, vibrant movement, and a diverse musical landscape.

We’re seeking performers of all experience levels in dance, music, and drama. This is a unique opportunity to take part in a Durham tradition and help bring a new kind of magic to the stage.

We are also inviting cultural and ethnic performance groups—including African, Chinese, Indian, Middle Eastern, Latin American, and other traditional forms—to collaborate and share their artistry as part of this vibrant, community-rooted production.

2025/2025 Walltown Dance Company Auditions

OPEN CALL For Dancers with pre-professional skills
Walltown’s Dance Company is seeking dedicated dancers ages [insert age range] with training in styles such as contemporary, modern, ballet, African, and hip hop. Company members perform original choreography, represent Walltown at local and regional competitions, and train with professional instructors. Auditions will assess technique, performance quality, and readiness for a fast-paced rehearsal environment.

AUDITION FEE - $15
Walltown charges a small audition fee to help cover the real costs of running a fair and thoughtful selection process. This includes compensating guest judges and instructors for their time and expertise, as well as supporting our administrative staff who coordinate auditions, process materials, and communicate with families.

We strive to make our programs accessible while valuing the time and care it takes to review each audition with integrity and attention.
If the audition fee presents a barrier, please contact us—we’re happy to discuss options.
AUDITION ATTIRE
Gals: Black leotard with skin tone tights and split-sole ballet shoes
Bring tap or jazz shoes if you would like to audition for those styles
Hair should be pulled back neatly
Guys: White short sleeved t-shirt (tucked in) with black shorts/tights/pants & black split-sole ballet shoes.

ALL: No large jewelry permitted
AUDITION PREP & REQUIREMENTS
The First Company audition will be held on June 14.  Students who score high enough for placement into the WDC are not required to attend the second audition on July 26.

All Company members (and aspiring members) are required to attend the boot camp.  If you are unable to attend the camp, you must attend either of the two-week Summer Dance sessions.  All four classes are required - attendance Monday - Thursday for the two-week session.

June 14 auditioners who do not score high enough for WDC placement, are required to take at least one of the 2-week sessions and/or the boot camp, and can re-audition on July 26.

Ballet Basics on Saturdays is a supplemental offering and not a part of the two-week session classes.  Some dancers needing additional training may be advised to take advantage of this supplemental training, however it is not a requirement (unless Company Directors deem it so for individual students’ development plans)

2026 Black History Month Community Showcase

OPEN CALL For Performers of ​ALL AGES
Walltown Children’s Theatre invites young artists, performers, and creators to be part of our annual Black History Month Showcase—a celebration of Black excellence, resilience, creativity, and culture. We're looking for student-led pieces in dance, music, spoken word, visual art, and beyond that uplift the stories and voices of the Black experience.
Whether you're ready to perform, collaborate, or create behind the scenes, we want to hear from you. All ages and experience levels welcome.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA
Performance pieces should be between 1 & 5 mins in length and must be CLEAN.
SUBMISSIONS DUE MONDAY JANUARY 27, 2025
To be considered, please submit details via google form accessible on the main page of our website: www.walltownchildrenstheatre.org.  Please complete a separate form for each piece you wish us to consider. If applicable, please also email a video or vocal recording of the piece (does not have to be a professional recording.  This is to offer us a visual of what you want to present.)  We will acknowledge all submissions once received and will request additional info if needed.  Those chosen to participate will be notified by Monday February 3.
RUNTHROUGHS & TECH
Our Theatre is a black box performance space with basic lighting and effects.  We will accommodate tech requests within the scope of equipment we have available.  Small props may be incorporated into your performances provided they can be brought on and off the stage by your group.  All tech meetings will be scheduled on Feb 7 & 8 via telephone or ZOOM.  All run throughs will be scheduled on February 14 beginning at 2PM in our performance space. 
**All Performers will be invited to sit in the audience during tech rehearsal so that they may experience the show and support their fellow performers
PUBLIC PERFORMANCE - FEBRUARY 14, 2025 @ 6:00PM
Both shows will be held at Walltown Children’s Theatre, 1225 Berkeley Street in Durham NC. Performers will be divided into 2 show groups, the first group will perform at 1:30, and the second at 6:00pm.  There may be instances where pieces are presented at both shows.
