Creative Connections: Latin America (Ages 4-10)
June 14th - June 25th
People from over thirty Latin America and Caribbean countries call Durham home! Join two of our favorite Walltown teachers', Andrea Lara and Abigail Garcia Gomez as we immerse ourselves in visual arts, music, dance, and food cultures of Latin America. With bilingual Spanish instruction, campers will explore the rhythmic roots of Latin American song and folk dances such as Salsa, Merenge, Tango, and Flamenco and share the delicious culinary arts of the region.
In this class dancer will dancers will develop and refine coordination while practicing basic techniques of latin and latino pop dance. With bilingual instruction, students are encouraged to express themselves in both the English and Spanish languages.
Campers will explore daily forms such as drawing, photography, video and filmmaking. Campers may also choose to help with end-of-camp costumes, decorative art and set design.
This class is geared towards those who have little or no prior music experience. We cover basics such as: holding and striking a drum properly, basic coordination drills, rhythms, and playing as a group. Please purchase a pair of drum sticks upon registration.
Taste and learn about the history of delicious latin culinary arts. End-of-camp potluck will highlight all we have learned!
