re-imagined production
of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker!
This hometown holiday favorite combines the best of both worlds: the iconic spectacle of Tchaikovsky’s ballet with an engaging story of a young dancer pursuing a dream in the face of contemporary — and relatable — challenges.
In addition to the traditional journeys of Clara and the nutcracker prince through the lands of snow and sweets, WCT’s “The Durham Nutcracker”, boasting a highly diverse cast, tells the behind-the scenes story of Sara Love, a young dancer facing challenges both in and out of the dance studio. Our story follows Sara, the other students and their parents as the kids audition for the Nutcracker Ballet and shows not only the importance of facing your fears and striving for what you want, but that perseverance and courage are equally important as talent. It emphasizes the importance of family during a traditional family-centered time of year.
