Cara Williams: WCT Board Chair
Cara Williams currently serves as the Board Chair of Walltown Children's Theatre. Cara is also the director of One Human Family Workshops, Inc., a non-profit community organization dedicated to developing models of unity through creative use of the arts. After volunteering with Walltown Children’s Theatre for several years, Cara is happy to serve on its Board of Directors, lending her financial expertise in support of its artistic programming for Durham’s children.
Kita Douglas: WCT Board Co-Chair
Kita Douglas is an educator and researcher in Durham who has served as a tutor at Walltown since 2012. A Ph.D candidate focusing on ethnic studies in the department of English at Duke University, Kita is committed to supporting youth as dynamic leaders and creative learners. Kita is the recipient of the 2016 Dora Anne Little Award given annually to a Duke student, undergraduate or graduate, who has excelled in service to the campus and community that extends beyond the classroom.
In the year 2000 I co-founded Walltown Children's Theatre. Since 2010, I have served as a full time Executive Director. I am honored to be the recipient of a number of awards that have recognized my work as an arts educator and community leader. I have received outstanding awards from the Kennedy Center and was named Miss North Carolina’s Woman of the Year in 1998. I have received a 15-Year Recognition Award from University NC Arts University . The Triangle Community Foundation awarded me the Kathryn H. Wallace Award for Artists in Community Service, an award given annually to recognize an individual who has made a significant contribution to the Triangle community. In 2014 I was Woman of the Year in the arts category for Spectacular Magazine and was also honored with the Cultural Enrichment Service Award by the W. Deen Mohammed Islamic Center. In 2016 the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation's coveted Sabbatical Award was given to engage in non-professional development activities to aid in my personal renewal and growth.
