Black Box Theater
In April of 2017, over 30 volunteers from the Durham theater community came together to help Walltown turn its largest studio space into a professional Black Box Theater.  With about $10,000 of tech equipment donated from the former Common Ground Theater, additional lighting from Reinvestment Partners closed tv studio, and funding from the Rust Foundation and Duke Durham & Regional Affairs, these volunteers spent about a month renovating the space and bringing Walltown's Black Box to life! 

The WCT Black Box is a catalyst for getting larger numbers of students engaged in the arts, as it provides opportunities to perform for small/intimate audiences in a professional environment.  WCT is able to offer technical courses in staging, set construction, lighting design, audio control and sound engineering for students and artist who prefer to work "behind the scenes" as well, which rounds out the theater education of our students, and gives them real world experience with all aspects of stage production.  

​As part of our ongoing commitment to serve as a resource for Durham's developing performance companies, Walltown also makes the black box theater available for rental at an affordable price whenever our own productions are "dark".

Facility Rentals
WCT's Black Box is a multi-purpose space, perfect for performances, presentations, business and community meetings and more.  We additionally rent out our Moore Studio either on its own, or as an addition to the BBox rental to be used as a green room w/dressing rooms.

​If you think our Theatre is perfect for your upcoming event, please follow these simple steps to reserve it.

1. Contact the office by calling 919-286-4545 or email us at [email protected] to see if your desired rental date is available prior to submitting this request. 
2. Upon confirmation of availability, we will put a 48-hour hold on the date while you complete the rental application.  If application is not received within 48 hours, WT reserves the right to release the requested date to other interested parties.
3. Once your application is submitted and approved, we will issue your contract and (time permitting) you will have 72 hours to secure your reservation with a deposit.  After 72 hours, WT reserves the right to release any holds on unsecured rentals.

WCT daily maintenance fee covers consumable supplies (such as toilet paper, hand towels, trash bags).

Standard Cleaning Fee

$100 per day

It is the rentor's responsibility to return WT Facilities to a "broom clean" condition removing all production items, and trash.

Up to $75 of the $100 cleaning fee is refundable if rentor cleans after event pursuant to cleaning check list. If rentor leaves facility in sub-par condition, additional cleaning and/or damage fees will be assessed.
